What I'm really trying to say is...

Ok, so that Ayn Rand post was pretty rambling, and didn't really get across anything important that I wanted to say. And I knew it when I posted it, and it's hard to get back and fix it.

I'm getting further into the lecture series, and the villification of altruism is hard to swallow. There seems to be this idea that it's all about what is best for ones self. I guess that's Capitalism. Which I generally think is a good thing, but it needs regulation. There are a lot smarter people than me on both sides of this, so I'm not going to try to explain the whole thing, but I'll just leave it that regulation is required.

But in Objectivist terms, I would say that to me the regulation is about protecting MY world from those who would take advantage of me, and of others. Maybe pure Objectivism would say each should look after their own, but there are too many people who can't or don't know how to protect themselves on every count. So we all need some help.

I think I might have to listen to the lectures twice.
