Rent, don't buy.
In my quest for progress, I've decided that when I get myself whittled down to a managable stack of stuff, there are going to be a few lists that I keep, and will be held at a static number. Like books, and video games. If I want a new one, I'll have to get rid of an old one. If I don't really want to HAVE it, then I'll go rent it, or borrow it.
I don't think I've taken a book out of a library in over 20 years. I had heard something about how there are actually more books than ever these days, because people have turned it into an issue of collecting, rather than reading. I know I'm guilty of it. I'll often buy several books at the same time, sometimes on the same topic. It has the effect of lowering the possibility that I will actually read any of them. It's really sad to look at my shelves, and see how many have good straight to bookshelf. I wanted to have it, in case I needed it.
My new philosophy is to wait until I need it, and am going to use it. Right away.

Isn't that tragic? I do the same thing. I'm getting better at it now, but I go on these spurts and buy, like, nine books at a time. I finally sat down yesterday and forced myself to take the time and read it. It was amazing!
Man, I really have to go back to the library.
